Providence Health & Services Technical Laboratory Specialist (Kodiak) in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling a Technical Lab Specialist (Laboratory, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:
Coordinate with the Laboratory Manager and Medical Director(s) to develop quality indicators and measure performance.
Be responsible for completing personnel schedules assuring they meet the staffing needs, staffing targets and budget guidelines.
Work with Hospital Safety Committee to establish and monitor safety measures to detect and minimize hazards within the laboratory.
Keep up with current trends in laboratory medicine. Evaluates and recommends equipment selection.
Communicate with members of the health care team concerning patient testing, diagnosis, specimen requirements, results or related information.
Be accountable for development and implementation of education programs such as MT and MLT student training, new employee orientation, and in-service education.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of education and training equivalent to the requirements for a Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology program recognized by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), and successful completion of an examination at the MT or CLS II level administered by an agency approved by the NCHAA, or equivalent
MT (ACSP) or equivalent
5 years of work experience in the clinical laboratory, which includes 1 or more years of supervisory experience
Knowledge and experience with Laboratory Information Systems

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
