Providence Surgical Technician II (Kodiak) in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling a Surgical Technician II (Operating Room, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, as well as emergency and unusual circumstances, act accordingly to expedite the surgery, and initiates corrective actions.
Provide for the comfort and safety of the patient during the operation. Anticipate the need for supplies, and identifies developing emergency situations, and initiate actions to assist in the care of the patient. Operate all equipment, including the preparation of hemeostatic and blood replacement products and devices.
Appropriately identify and safely transport patients to and from the Operating Room according to procedure.
Ses up surgical equipment. Select and prepare appropriate equipment, suture, and stapling devices for procedures.
Pick up and receive soiled equipment. Sort, unload and decontaminate equipment and instruments according to procedure.
Steam autoclaves and aerators. Load and unload according to procedure. Identify and documents any variance in color of wrap, visible moisture or mechanical malfunction after sterilization is complete.
Assemble trays, basin sets, packages, instruments, and prepare items for terminal sterilization.
Package and sterilize dressings and special items according to written procedure or request.
Assemble case carts for Surgical Services using preference card system. Orders, receives, and stores supplies in designated areas.
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Graduation from a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAAHEP) or other program accredited by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist or completion of a Surgical Technician Military Training program
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
BLS or the ability to attain certification within 90 days of date of hire
Operating Room experience for candidates who have graduated from an accredited Surgical Technology Program or have completed other accredited programs by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist or completion of a Surgical Technician Military Training program. Candidates with equivalent other or at least six months of on the job clinical training must have minimum one year operating room experience scrubbing on surgical procedures
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Certification in Sterile Processing

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
