Providence Speech Language Pathologist in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling a Speech Language Pathologist (Speech Therapy, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:
PATIENT CARE: Evaluate patient/resident physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills as related to his/her prognosis. Plan and implement treatment in concert with physician’s orders and in accordance with professional standards. Provide direction and guidance to other caregivers to assist them in following through on the therapeutic plan of care. Exhibit clinical skills relevant to level of education and training in speech therapy. Provide speech therapy services in Inpatient, Outpatient, Care Center, and Home Health settings.
Conduct medically prescribed initial screenings, assessments, intervention and treatment for human communication disorders and dysfunction. May include dysfunction related to speech, oral-pharyngeal function or dysphasia, cognitive or communication disorders. In addition, the Speech Language Pathologist may develop augmentative and alternative communication systems and training, provide aural rehabilitation, and hearing screen in compliance with standards and guidelines established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Treatment is provided under the order of a physician licensed in the State of Alaska.
DOCUMENTATION: Document all aspects of care and outcomes in a manner that is clear to others and that meets service standards. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner and according to departmental policy. Plan for patient/resident discharge with attention given to home programs, equipment arrangement, and patient/resident family education.
EDUCATION: Provide patient/resident family education in a variety of physical settings. Develop community educational or screening programs as needed.
PROMOTION: Assist in promotion of the department through community awareness outreach projects as time allows.
Assess patient’s functional abilities and limitations and make recommendations for augmentative or alternative communication devices as indicated, working with durable medical equipment suppliers or audiologists as needed.

CRITICAL THINKING AND ORGANIZATION: Utilize available resources. Recognizes errors/problems and takes corrective action. Demonstrate effective priority setting and organization skills to promote department flow and cost efficiency. Ensure smooth, efficient services and maximizes comfort and confidentiality for the patient. Anticipate and prioritize workflow and adjust work assignments to prevent delays and meet work flow demands. Assist with problems resolutions.
PERSONNEL: Demonstrate knowledge and support of quality improvement goals. Participates in department projects or committees as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Masters Degree or Doctorate in Speech Language Pathology
Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist in the State of Alaska
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
Current Alaska driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of vehicle insurance
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 1 year work experience

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
