Providence Health & Services Social Worker in Kodiak, Alaska


Providence is calling Social Workers to Alaska! We are looking to fill several openings for Medical Social Workers and Mental Health Clinicians in Kodiak and Anchorage. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In the Medical Social Worker position you will:

  • Possess current knowledge of the bio psychosocial aspects of illness, disability and death and be able to apply this knowledge in a professional and understanding manner.

  • Monitor residents’ funds in the resident trust accounts to ensure residents’ Medicaid eligibility is maintained where applicable.

  • Screen and secure free or discounted travel for clients who qualify and have off-island medical appointments.

  • Utilize available resources to recognize errors/problems and takes corrective action and assists with problem resolution.

  • Evaluate own practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations.

  • Develop and/or maintain department records keeping system, regarding par levels of department supplies.

In the Mental Health Clinician II position you will:

  • Provide quality mental health services to children, adolescents and adults.

  • Provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults in an individual, couples or group format as appropriate.

  • Work within guidelines of accepted standards of mental health practice.

  • Develop treatment plans, record clinical progress, and prepare reports as appropriate.

  • Provide consultation and education to individuals, agencies, organizations and other professionals.

  • Participate in regular clinical supervision, staffing, in-service training and professional development.

  • Participate in 24-hour on-call crisis intervention and emergency service rotation.

In the Community Support Program Team Lead position you will:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of community services personnel engaged in case management and skills training of psychiatrically disabled clients.

  • Direct appropriate staff to provide psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of community support services.

  • Plan work schedules to optimize efficient and effective use of staff time in the provision of program services.

  • Function as a member of the center management team with shared responsibility for program planning and development, quality assurance, budget preparation and implementation, as well as grant application.

  • Identify staff training needs and develop resources to meet those needs.

  • Work with the Director to plan, develop and implement mental health programs throughout the borough.


Required qualifications for these positions include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Social Work, psychology or related field

  • Current Social Worker license with the State of Alaska (LPC, LCSW, LMFT)

  • Experience with patient and family assessment with undeserved populations to include the chronically ill OR 2 years progressively responsible experience in a mental health or closely related setting

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of psychotherapy, psychological assessment or assessment procedures appropriate to field if other than psychology and crisis intervention

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of clients, staff and others

Providence Kodiak Island Counseling Cente r (PKICC) offers a wide array of behavioral health services offered through different programs within the agency such as Outpatient Clinic, Community Support Program, Family Focused Program, Mental Health Clinicians in the School Program, Safe Harbor and Alcohol Safety Action Program.
