Providence is calling a Radiology Technician II Diagnostic X-ray - Mammographic Technologist (Radiology, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) at Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position, you will:

  • PROCEDURES:Performs wide variety of Diagnostic X-Ray and Mammographic procedures and protocols, maintaining high image quality according to department, hospital, MQSA standards, and national standards. Prepares examination rooms, equipment and patients for scheduled procedures.

  • COMMUNICATION: Communicates with physicians, nurses and other members of the team concerning patient status, diagnosis, and related information. Operates multiple communication and telecommunication systems. Helps coordinate scheduling of routine exams, tests, and daily add-on procedures.

  • SAFETY & EDUCATION: Complies with department and hospital magnetic safety standards. Practices Body Substance Isolation. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for job. Maintains minimum of 15 CE credits every three years specific to the field of mammography.

  • TEAMWORK: Maintains team-oriented approach to high standards of patient care and patient flow through the department. Helpful and courteous at all times with co-workers, maintaining positive relationships.

  • EQUIPMENT: Calibrates, maintains and trouble-shoots equipment and independent workstations. Optimizes equipment and supplies to benefit department operations and needs.

  • SUPPLIES & INVENTORY: Stocks work area daily. May be involved in stocking general supplies or ordering as requested.

  • DOCUMENTATION: Completes records, daily Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Improvement information, meeting MQSA regulations and department standards.

  • Performs the duties necessary to meet the departmental goals within established procedures and guidelines. Works with little or no supervision at night and on weekends when “on call”. Unusual or complex problems are referred to the Radiology Manager for resolution.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology

  • Must be ARRT (R)(M) registered or eligible

  • If eligible, must obtain certification within three months of date of hire

  • Must meet all MQSA requirements

  • BLS or the ability to attain certification within 90 days of date of hire required

  • Requires extensive knowledge of breast anatomy and physiology

  • Requires extensive knowledge of breast pathology and mammographic signs of pathology

  • Must have knowledge of all mammographic positions and the ability to radiographically record the required information

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Two years clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist

  • One-year clinical experience as a Mammographer

This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, two psychiatric care beds and two ICU beds. In addition, the Care Center, PKIMC’s extended care facility, has 19 long-term care beds.
