Providence is calling a Medical Technologist (Laboratory ) to Providence Kodiak Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. This is full-time variable shift.

In this position you will:
Performs high complexity tests that require a degree of skill commensurate with the incumbents’ education, training, experience, and technical abilities.
Obtains complete documentation for the registration process including signatures and related billing information. Identifies need for Advanced Beneficiary Notice for Medicare patients and obtains proper ICD-9 codes and/or patient signature for billing. Understands and adheres to all compliance related procedures. Accurately assesses physician test requests as needed. Prepares specimens for shipping as needed.
Conducts laboratory diagnostic tests accurately. Reports results to the medical record in a timely manner. Extreme values (critical values) are reported directly to physicians or other medical personnel as appropriate.
Conducts quality control testing on all laboratory procedures to ensure result accuracy. Written documentation is accomplished.
Completes daily equipment checks and preventative maintenance procedures to ensure equipment accuracy and reliability. Takes corrective action whenever an instrument does not perform up to specifications. Completes written documentation of all maintenance procedures.
Handles all biological materials safely by following standard precautions. Obtains specimens in a safe manner taking all precautions deemed necessary by the Laboratory Manager and the various regulatory agencies.
Must be proficient/competent in all Laboratory disciplines to work within the Laboratory which include Blood Bank (Immunohematology), Clinical Chemistry, Special Chemistry (includes therapeutic drugs, cardiac procedures and toxicology), Immunology and Serology, Hematology, Hemostasis (coagulation studies), Bacteriology, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy (including Blood Donor procedures) and all procedures involved with the procurement and completion of Reference Laboratory studies.
Complies with all Laboratory policies and procedures. Adheres to hospital biohazard waste program. Maintains clean, well stocked working area.
Participates in hospital committees as appropriate. Keeps the supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns as they arise.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of education equivalent to national certification as Medical Technologist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA)
National certification as Medical Technologist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP) or as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
Effective skills in management and leadership
Effective verbal and written skills
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 2 years of work experience in a clinical laboratory

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
