Providence Infection Preventionist 1 in Kodiak, Alaska


Providence is calling an Infection Preventionist 1 (Epidemiological Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) at Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Relationships: Develop strong relationships with colleagues from key departments, including: Environmental Services, Emergency Preparedness, Pharmacy, Nursing Leadership, Surgery Leadership, Safety, Central Services, Quality, Medical Affairs, Facility Maintenance and Construction, Laboratory, Risk Management, Patient Safety, Linen Services, and Materials Management.

  • High Reliability: Demonstrate understanding of high reliability principles through use of tools, tones, and behaviors that promote patient safety.

  • Regulatory: Demonstrate understanding of regulatory and advisory guidelines through application.

  • Leading Practice: Utilize and synthesize scientific evidence for decision making and intervention planning.

  • Surveillance: Effectively apply surveillance definitions and gather relevant surveillance data.

  • Education: Present infection prevention related data in an effective manner that is appropriate to the audience.

  • Use of Resources: Effectively navigate the electronic medical record and available surveillance software and tools.

  • Scope of influence: Effectively and efficiently manage daily operations of infection prevention responsibilities, including (but not limited to) improvement, rounding, and consultation.

  • Epidemiology: Identify occurrences, reservoirs, incubation periods, periods of communicability, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms of susceptibility associated with disease.


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Science, Nursing, Public Health, or other health-related field

  • RN candidates must be currently licensed in the state in which they are applying.

  • APIC roadmap to Certification (CIC) within 2 years of hire.

  • Three (3) years healthcare or public health experience. A Master's Degree in health-related field can be substituted for 2 of the 3 years of experience.

Preferred qualification for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Laboratory Science, Nursing, Public Health, or other health-related field or may be substituted for 2 years of experience in healthcare or public health.

  • 3 years of clinical experience.

About Kodiak Island Medical Center.

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.

PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
