Providence Health Information Management Technician in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling a Health Information Management Technician (Medical Records, Days , 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:
Demonstrate competency in using and operating standard office equipment and electronic information systems to meet daily department and employee performance goals. Ensure all system entries are completed accurately and timely. Proficient in the use of HIM functions of EPIC
Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all patient medical records by ensuring that hospital policies and procedures are followed. Process and document medical records for applicable chart retention storage, retrieval and destruction.
Research, respond to and log requests for patient health information both routine and emergent. Possesses expert knowledge regarding release of information and HIPAA privacy rules and regulations. Demonstrate superior critical thinking and analytical skills to interpret, communicate, and execute regulatory requirements and organizational standards. Respond to release of information requests in accordance with established policies and procedures and department guidelines. Print/fax or photocopy appropriate records from legacy system and /or EPIC.
Analyze medical records for completeness and compliance in accordance with federal and state regulatory guidelines, and HIM department policy and procedures. Monitor work queues and performs problem resolution/corrective action where needed
Retrieve medical record documentation from all clinical departments and prep, scan and index documents into the correct patient record. Perform quality assurance processes to double check indexing of documents is accurate. Resolve misfiled documents and On-Base and Epic scanning errors as required.
Identify and track deficiencies, insuring physician documentation is in accordance with hospital policy and coordinates the medical staff delinquency and suspension process. Assign/reassign documentation deficiencies to the correct clinical staff.
Process the birth certificate parent worksheet, registers births, maintains facility birth log and files paternity affidavits in accordance with State and hospital guidelines. Submit weekly metabolic screening report to the State of Alaska. Comply birth defect registry reports and submit monthly to the Alaska Birth Defect Registry.
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
3 years clerical experience.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associates degree in health information, computer science or related field
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Medical records experience

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
