Providence Health & Services Certified First Assist Surgical Technician in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling a Certified First Assist Surgical Technician ( Operating Room Dept, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position, you will:
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, as well as emergency and unusual circumstances, acts accordingly to expedite the surgery, and initiates corrective actions.
Provides for the comfort and safety of the patient during the operation. Anticipates the need for supplies, and identifies developing emergency situations, and initiates actions to assist in the care of the patient. Operates all equipment, including the preparation of hemeostatic and blood replacement products and devices.
Appropriately identifies and safely transports patients to and from the Operating Room according to procedure.
Sets up surgical equipment. Selects and prepares appropriate equipment, suture, and stapling devices for procedures.
Picks up and receives soiled equipment. Sorts, unloads and decontaminates equipment and instruments according to procedure.
Loads, operates and unloads steam autoclaves and aerators according to procedure. Identifies and documents any variance in color of wrap, visible moisture or mechanical malfunction after sterilization is complete.
Assembles trays, basin sets, packages, instruments, and prepares items for terminal sterilization.
Packages and sterilizes dressings and special items according to written procedure or request.
Assembles case carts for Surgical Services using preference card system. Orders, receives, and stores supplies in designated areas.

Ensures smooth, efficient services and maximizes comfort and confidentiality for the patient. Anticipates and prioritizes workflow and adjusts work assignments to prevent delays and meet work flow demands. Assists with problems resolutions.
Demonstrates knowledge and support of quality improvement goals. Participates in department, facility and organizational projects or committees as assigned.
Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High School diploma and Accredited Surgical Tech program or Military Surgical Tech program
6 months professional experience in an Operating Room in an acute care setting
1 year Experience as an Operating Room Surgical Tech.
National certification as a Certified First Assistant Surgical Technician required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) within 90 days upon hire.
