Providence Assistant Manager - Dietary Services in Kodiak, Alaska
Providence is calling an Assistant Manager Dietary Services (Dietary, Days, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:
Understand the needs of the customer and prioritize work assignments and team efforts towards meeting those needs. Ensure that the processes, systems and tools, which enable the nutrition/dietary teams to support the customer and medical center needs, are available and are used. Assist with the coordination and supervision of nutrition service work activities affecting other areas, in a manner that minimizes disruptions and inconveniences of the customer. Respond to complaints in a manner that demonstrates the organization’s core values.
Build trust, develop, coach and train staff to work as a team. Provide guidance for staff through clear and consistent communication. Encourage staff to use their talents to achieve the desired outcomes. Participate in personnel functions including hiring, evaluations, disciplinary actions and terminations. Appropriately credit team members for the effort and accomplishment of desired outcomes.
Ensure an effective purchasing process is maintained by requisitioning necessary products and supplies for personnel, determining necessary quality requirements, assessing quantity needs, selecting suppliers according to current contracting, arranging for deliveries, following up on orders, dispensing of equipment and other items when necessary. Maintain department records regarding par levels of department supplies. Process bills.
Routinely review the performance of nutrition services staff against key indicators, take action when necessary to improve outcomes. Monitor nutrition service operations to ensure that accurate records and documentation are maintained and complete. Interpret facility policies to the staff and analyze and resolve employee disputes. Review hours worked by staff and schedule staff.
Plan and implement formal and informal staff in-service sessions in a manner which provide learning and education opportunities for staff members. Support the ongoing staff competency and evaluation processes. Select and develop staff who will meet the organizational objectives and purpose. Take time to learn new skills, systems and information pertaining to team leadership functions. Ensure that all employees are properly trained to perform their duties and crossed trained to work in all aspects of the nutrition services department.
Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of customer satisfaction goals to improve patient, physician and employee satisfaction. Make recommendations and institute changes in techniques or procedures for a more efficient operation.
Encourage positive interaction with other departments and if necessary, direct staff to work directly with other team members when resolving issues. Participate with nutrition services work activities as a team member on a daily basis. Initiate and suggest plans to motivate staff to achieve goals.
In collaboration with the Dietician, monitor nutrition services staff to assure food safety and sanitation procedures including the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) principles are followed correctly. Make frequent inspections of all work, storage and serving areas to determine that food safety regulations and directions governing dietetic activities are followed. Inspect the physical condition of the equipment and ensure that maintenance repairs are done in a timely manner. Maintain appropriate documentation. Atten safety meetings as required and share information with staff.
Strong communication skills critical to managing interactions with a wide variety of people from differing literacy levels, languages, and cultures. Written skills necessary for documentation in the medical record, as well as providing written information for home use.

Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
3 years of experience in food services
Certification in food safety and sanitation required within 90 days of date of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Two years of college in Food and Nutrition
1 year of supervisory experience

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds.
